A few days after his 71st birthday, Alan Menken achieves EGOT status by winning a Daytime Emmy Awards for “Waiting In The Wings” from Disney Channel’s Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure. He shares the Outstanding Original Song in a Children’s, Young Adult, or Animated Program award with lyricist Glenn Slater.
The composer became the 16th person in history to win a competitive Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. Back in 2012, Menken won the Best Original Score Tony Award in 2012 for Newsies. He then went on to win eight Oscars for his Disney work including The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Pocahontas. Even more impressive, his film work earned him 11 Grammy Awards including one for Tangled in 2012.
Alan Menken joins composers Andrew Lloyd Webber or Richard Rogers who became the first individual to EGOT in 1962.
