Epic, the musical telling of Homer’s The Odyssey, is getting turned in an animated movie thanks to Jerry Bruckheimer.
Bruckheimer, the mega-producer behind the Top Gun and The Pirates of the Caribbean movies, has partnered with Jorge Rivera-Herrans, the creator, composer, songwriter, producer, and performer behind the viral sensation, and Atlantic Music Group president Kevin Weaver to produce an animated musical adaptation of the epic, no pun intended, saga. Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films will also produce. The project would be Bruckheimer’s first foray into animation but not into the world of music.
The musical, divided into 9 parts, tells the tale of Odysseus’ 20-year journey home through several challenges – being challenged by gods and monsters.
What started as a passion-project, turned into a global phenomenon, quickly earning millions of streams and topping the charts – even managing to push Taylor Swift off of it after the release of the last saga, The Ithaca Saga. Quite an unexpected success that happened overnight but is definitely here to stay!
As EPIC is a completely sung-through musical, with no stage adaptation, fans have taken it upon themselves to bring the song to life with their own animations. Characters, emotions, setting… With their own style, the fans and artists gave their own insight into the story.
