Initial casting announced for Chicago Le Musical at the Casino de Paris

Casting has been announced for the Parisian run of Chicago The Musical at the Casino de Paris. The news was announced on stage at the Ambassador Theatre in New-York by the current Broadway cast introducing the leading figures of the french production.

Stepping into the lead role of Velma Kelly will be french actress and singer, Shy’M. Chicago will mark her stage debut in a musical. Revealed in 2005, the RnB and pop singer already showcased her talent as a dancer both on stage and on TV with Dancing With The Stars.

About playing Velma Kelly, Shy’M said:

“It’s a real risk and the first time I will get to bring everything together at once. We’ll have to do it all, but that’s also the magic of a musical. Starting a musical after 20 years of a solo career wasn’t an obvious choice, but I find it even more interesting to do it now.”

She will be joined on stage by Jacques Preiss as Billy Flynn. Preiss most recently starred as Marius Pontmercy in the parisian revival of Les Misérables at the Théâtre du Chatelet. Les Misérables went on to win best Musical at the 2025 Molière.

Starring as Roxie Hart will be Vanessa Cailhol. In 2024, she won the Molière Award for Best Actress in a Public Theatre Production for her role in the play Courgette, Vanessa Cailhol has also starred in Cabaret, Cats, and Mamma Mia!.

Further casting is yet to be announced.

This will be the second time Chicago The Musical will be presented in paris, seven years after its first run at the Theatre Mogador. The show will run at the Casino de Paris from november 7th to january 31st.

Murderers Roxie Hart (who killed her husband) and Velma Kelly (who killed her husband and sister) find themselves on death row together and fight for the fame that will keep them from the gallows in 1920s Chicago. Both turn to the charismatic Billy Flynn, a lawyer as brilliant as he is opportunistic. A story of love, passion, cupidity and bribery.

After 28 years, CHICAGO is still the one musical with everything that makes Broadway shimmy-shake: a universal tale of fame, fortune, and all that jazz, with one showstopping song after another and the most astonishing dancing you’ve ever seen. No wonder CHICAGO has been honored with 6 Tony Awards®, 2 Olivier Awards, a Grammy®, and thousands of standing ovations.
