Words by Léna Fontaine

It is time for some vocals! Ariana Grande and Shoshana Bean will join  Jason Robert Brown’s monthly Artist-in-Residency concert. The virtual show will take place on April 27 at 8pm. If the concert is free to watch online, viewers can still participate by donating to the SubCulture musicians and staff.

Last year, Shoshana Bean returned to the stage and played Jenna in Sara Bareilles’ Waitress. Her grand broadway return as She ended her Elphaba’s run in 2006. Previously, She starred in Hairspray, Funny Girl, Godspell and Jason Robert Brown’s Songs for a New World.

As for Ariana Grande, She previously worked with Brown back in 2008 when She starred in 13 on Broadway. Since then, She earned a Grammy award for her album Sweetener and played Penny in NBC’s Hairspray Live!

“What I have missed and mourned the most over these last extraordinary weeks has been my ability to connect with music—to play and sing with other musicians and to feel the audience responding,” said Brown in a statement.

“Sitting here watching the news go by, I had to do something. I had to figure out some way to let these notes and words in my head come out and be shared with my collaborators and my audience, and so, here we are. All of us in our homes, making music however and whenever we can, with an amazing team to help pull it all together, and two of the greatest singers on the planet Earth. We’ve put together a show about what we’ve lost, what we’ve discovered and what we’re grateful for, and I can’t wait to share it with you.”

Launched in 2014, the event already had some impressive guest in the past including Steven Pasquale, Sutton Foster, Kelli O’Hara, Katrina Lenk and more.

You can watch the live-event on SubCulture’s Facebook page and Vimeo.
