Bless our souls! The longtime Disney favorite Hercules, which is receiving a musical adaptation at the Public Theater’s Delacorte Theater in Central Park this summer, today announced their cast.

Jelani Alladin (Frozen) will play the title character, alongside Krysta Rodriguez (Spring Awakening) as Meg. Joining the pair will be Roger Bart, who voiced Hercules in the film, as Hades, James Monroe Iglehart (Aladdin) as Phil, and Tamika Lawrence (Come From Away) as Calliope, lead of the Muses. Full casting will be announced soon.

The musical will include Alan Menken and David Zippel’s original Oscar-winning songs and an adapted book by Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz. Lear deBessonet will direct, with Chase Brock choreography. It will play a free run from August 31 to September 8 in the tradition of the Public Theater’s Public Works shows. The production will be presented through a special arrangement with Disney Theatrical Productions under the direction of Thomas Schumacher.

As we anticipate more from the production, check out James Monroe Iglehart’s take on famous Disney ballads, including “Go the Distance” and “Zero to Hero” from the original movie!
