Based on the beloved Warner Bros. motion picture of the same name, with a story by Paul Castro and Nick Castle, August Rush: A New Musical features a book by Nick Blaemire (Safety Not Guaranteed, Space Dogs), and music inspired by the film’s Oscar and Grammy-nominated score, with additional new songs by Blaemire, Van Hughes (Burn All Night, Space Dogs), Grammy, Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Tom Kitt (Next to Normal, Almost Famous), and others. Kitt also provides Music Supervision, Orchestrations & Arrangements for the production, bringing the film’s vibrant blend of rock, classical, gospel, and rhythms of the city, to the stage in this inspiring story of artistry and reconnection.

A charismatic young Irish guitarist and a sheltered young cellist have a chance encounter one magical night above New York’s Washington Square, but are soon torn apart — leaving in their wake an infant, August Rush, orphaned by circumstance. This musically gifted child runs away from his orphanage and searches New York City for his birth parents. On his journey, he’s taken under the wing of a mysterious stranger, Wizard, who shelters young street musicians in an abandoned Filmore East theater. Soon performing on the streets of New York, August uses his remarkable musical talent to seek the parents from whom he was separated at birth.

Richard Barton Lewis, the award-winning producer of the 2007 motion picture August Rush – which starred Freddie Highmore, Robin Williams, Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Terrence Howard – and his Southpaw Entertainment have teamed up with acclaimed Korean theater producer Chunsoo Shin/OD Company, currently represented on Broadway by the record-breaking hit musical The Great Gatsby and the multi-award-winning comedy Titanique. August Rush: A New Musical is produced on stage by Special Arrangement with Warner Bros.
