Audience members at the evening performance of Anastasia at the Broadhurst Theatre were treated to a one-of-a-kind surprise this past Friday – a duet spanning generations of fans of the legend and mystery of the Romanovs. Liz Callaway, who lent her talent to the singing voice of the title character of the beloved 1997 animated classic Anastasia, joined current Broadway leading lady Christy Altomare for a performance of the Ahrens and Flaherty original “Journey to the Past” following the evening’s curtain call. While a large number of songs from the original animated film and its songwriting team made their way to the stage twenty years later for the current adaptation of Anastasia, there are few more recognizable than the sweeping number about home, love, and family – which made a reimagined and newly arranged debut between the two stars earlier this year at the Broadway Princess Party. Hosted at Feinstein’s/54 Below, audiences were able to see Callaway and Altomare join together for the duet prior to its performance on the stage at the Broadhurst this past Friday. The collaboration is also slated for a September 28th single release on digital and retail platforms, and will be accompanied by a music video.
