Emmanuel Moire to reprise his role as King Louis XIV in Le Roi Soleil

A new version of the french musical will be produced in 2025 and 2026 with Emmanuel Moire returning to his breakout role, 20 years later.

Le Roi Soleil, created by french producer Dove Attia and choreographer Kamel Ouali, was first produced in 2005 and was met with success by the public. With over 400 performances, 1,6 millions attendes and one million records sold, the show remains one of the most popular french production of all time.

Le Roi Soleil tells the story of Louis XIV as he becomes the King of France. Throughout the show, we meet several of his lovers like Marie Mancini, Madame de Maintenon and Madame de Montespan, as well as the trials and tribulations of rulling a country. The show features hits like “Etre a la Hauteur”, “Je fais de toi mon Essentiel” and “Ca Marche”.

On joining the show, 20 years after its first run, Emmanuel Moire said :

“Back in 2005, I was so young and the show was so huge. I didn’t allow myself to fully enjoy it and express myself fully! It was complicated to manage it all. (…) Being Louis XIV is not just being a King. The songs in the show are connected to his human experience. They tell a lot about his questions, his doubts and also the chaos of the character. I have this complexity too!”

With this new production, the producers are hoping to touch a whole new generation while still connecting with the old fans. About this perspective, choreographer Kamel Ouali said :

“There is also a whole new audience who know the songs, have seen videos of the show on the Internet, but were too young to have attended it at the time!”

Further casting is yet to be announced. The original cast featured Emmanuel Moire as Louis XIV, Anne-Laure Girbal as Marie Mancini, Christophe Maé as Philippe de France, Cathialine Andria as Madame de Maintenon, Merwan Rim as François de Vendôme, Lysa Ansaldi as Madame de Montespan and Victoria Sio as Isabelle.

Many original cast members went to brilliant career like Christophe Maé who is now one of the most popular french singer of his generations. Merwan Rim was also featured in several french musicals like Mozart, l’Opéra Rock and Les Dix Commandements.

Le Roi Soleil will play at Le Dome de Paris from December 4th before embarking on a tour in 2026. Tickets are already selling fast for this long-awaited return, make sure you don’t miss it. leroisoleil-lespectacle.fr
